WHY HAVENíT YOU HEARD ABOUT P.E.T. and Power Engineering??
|The main reason why, I believe
heard about Power Engineering Technology (PET) before is, for the most
part we are educated by men and women that have attended college or
They are academics. Most will talk about other more prevalent
forms of employment and other career directions other than Power
Technology. They know nothing or very little about trade schools or
institutions. Most would have you think that if you donít wear a shirt
and tie or, a suit to work then you are beneath the rest of the world.
That is a very narrow and dim view. It is a very limiting view.
Other strong factors effecting the availability of information are the geographic concentration or lack there of, of industry and the fact that this is "The Silent Career". These factors will seriously impact the chances of you ever knowing about this profession.
Even the guidance councilors have a limited view on this for the most part because of the previously mentioned reasons. And the information they may have in a brochure or, any other form is extremely limited.
We can't just fault our educators for this. It's just the way things are. It's not just their responsibility, it's the system of things. Our profession and industry has the lion's share of the responsibility to educate the public and we really haven't done a good job of it. Some have made and are making significant efforts but, because we haven't come together as a solidified body as stake holders, we haven't achieved the level of success I believe we need to. It's time to shake the cobwebs loose and do something constructive and enduring that will benefit all stake holders as well as future generations. Another good reason to have this web site.
I remember reading a brochure on this when I was in high school back in 1973. I passed up on it at the time. The brochure portrayed this career as boring, limited in scope, limited in opportunity, limited in income, a real no where kind of a job. The impression I had was it looked more like a glorified janitorial job. Nothing could be further from the truth in my mind. So if you've heard about P.E.T. before and didnít have an interest in it at that point, the reason for that was you were given a very narrow view of what P.E.T. and Stationary Engineering was all about.
If I had known all the details on how dramatically this career could change my lifestyle and my life I would have jumped at the opportunity when it was first introduced to me. And if I did jump at it, I believe I would be light years ahead of where I am today as I would have gotten into it straight out of high school. As it was I didnít get into it until I was, I didnít get into this until I was 28 years old. I know I would have done things quite differently. I probably would have been retired by now and living the life of Reilly in the Caribbean some where.
If had all the information that is contained in this ebook at the time I graduated from high school I could have done any number of different things that could have allowed me to retire by age 45 or sooner. Getting my first class level of certification would have been my first goal (Five years of work experience and writing off the exams ASAP). I would have chosen my field of endeavor at the time like, electrical power generation or maybe the chemical or petroleum industry. I would have gotten about five years experience and then gone overseas and worked for another ten years or so and then I probably would have had enough money to comfortably retire almost anywhere I desired. Not too many people can do that.
The great thing is____, YOU have the fabulous opportunity of benefiting from the experience and mistakes of all the people I have interviewed for this ebook. You will have the advice of over 100 years of experience. This is an overview of P.E.T./Stationary Engineer that has never been made available to the general public before in such a comprehensive and readily available form of media.
