Chad got into the business in the summer of
1997 by investigating Power Engineering and then getting on board at a
Technical school to start training. He got his 4th and then
his 3rd class Power Engineer certificate by April of 1999. He
was lucky in that his father, who is an I/E Tech told him about Power Engineering
and suggested it to him as a career. His Dad took him to work where he
had an opportunity to talk to other Power Engineers and see what it is
they do at their jobs.
Chad liked the fact that there were different industries he could work in as well as a great variety of different jobs one could have with just one employer if one was to choose variety. One could also see and live in many parts of the world by transferring around with an employer too. The combinations and opportunities are endless if you think about it long enough and do a lot of investigating. He could also see that if a guy wanted to do just one thing for the rest of his career like, be a boiler operator one could do that too. Chad liked the fact that one could get out of school and slide into a high paying job almost instantaneously because employers and the school would line students up with summer jobs and work experience jobs that turned into full time jobs things worked out. The work experience was part of his schooling so he basically got paid for going to some part of his schooling. Chad is employed with a large multi-national company these days and finds it to be right for him for the moment. He likes the fact that he works independently in his unit and also has the opportunity to team up with others Stationary Engineers in other work units within the plant to work on other projects.
Since Chad got on full time with the large multinational in 2001 he has paid off a new car he bought in 1999, furnished his apartment with all new furniture including a big screen TV, an entertainment center, an expensive and professionally installed stereo for his car, and a new Honda all-terrain-vehicle. He is only 22 years of age yet, he is investing for his retirement and saving for a house that he figures he may buy sometime next year. Not bad! ![]() Even though some of Chad’s friends with university education’s are into their fourth year of working, they still haven’t paid off their student loans. The other part that is baffling is that even though they have university education’s and have spent four years or more getting their degrees, they aren’t and probably won’t make as much money as Chad is and will as time goes on. And even though Chad took over two years to get his 3rd class certificate he was employed while he wasn’t at school and he was making good money and gaining valuable work related experience. Most university kids will take what ever they can get for the summer and it’s usually not related to what they are taking in university. Chad’s philosophy is, "Knowledge is power." |
